MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Doctor of Philosophy Programmes in:

Microbiology; Entomology; Botany; Fisheries; Immunology; Parasitology; Statistics; Physics; Mathematics; Biochemistry; Biotechnology; Chemistry

Master Degree in a relevant field from a recognized institution.

NB: Candidates must include, at application time, a concept note of their proposed thesis research

Master of Science in Microbiology

Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class (Upper Division) in Biological Sciences from a recognized institution, OR Second Class (Lower Division) with at least two (2) years research or experience in relevant field.

Master of Science in Fisheries

Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class (Upper Division) in Fisheries or Marine Biology from a recognized institution, OR Second Class (Lower Division) with at least two (2) years research or experience in relevant field.

Master of Science in Applied Medical Entomology

Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class (Upper Division) in Zoology or Biomedical Sciences from a recognized institution, OR Second Class (Lower Division) with at least two (2) years research or experience in relevant field.

Master of Science in Immunology

Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class (Upper Division) in Biological Sciences or related discipline from a recognized institution, OR Second Class (Lower Division) with at least two (2) years research experience in relevant field.

Master of Science in Physics

Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class (Upper Division) in Physics from a recognized institution, OR Second Class (Lower Division) with at least two (2) years relevant work experience.

Master of Science in Statistics

Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class (Upper Division) in Statistics from a recognized institution, OR Second Class (Lower Division) with at least two (2) years relevant work experience.

Master of Science in Biochemistry

Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class (Upper Division) in Biochemistry, Biotechnology or equivalent from a recognized institution, OR Second Class (Lower Division) with at least two (2) years relevant work experience.

Master of Science in Biotechnology

Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class (Upper Division) in Biochemistry, Biotechnology or equivalent from a recognized institution, OR Second Class (Lower Division) with at least two (2) years relevant work experience.

Master of Science in Bioinformatics

Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class (Upper Division) in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Computer Science or equivalent from a recognized institution, OR Second Class (Lower Division) with at least two (2) years relevant work experience.

Master of Science in Parasitology

Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class (Upper Division) in Biological Sciences or related fields from a recognized institution, OR Second Class (Lower Division) with at least two (2) years research experience in relevant field.

Master of Science in Chemistry

Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class (Upper Division) in Chemistry from a recognized institution, OR Second Class (Lower Division) with at least two (2) years relevant work experience.

Master of Science in Botany Options:

Plant Ecology and Diversity; Plant Physiology

Bachelor Degree with at least Second Class (Upper Division) in Biological Sciences or related discipline from a recognized institution, OR Second Class (Lower Division) with at least two (2) years research experience in relevant field.

Bachelor of Science in Mathematics

Mean grade of C+ at KCSE or equivalent. In addition, the candidate should have obtained a minimum of C+ in Mathematics and any two of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies or geography. OR A holder of Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (K.A.C.E) certificate or its equivalent with a minimum of three Principal passes in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

Bachelor of Science in Physics

Mean grade of C+ at KCSE or equivalent. With a minimum grade of C+ in Physics and C (plain) in Mathematics OR Mean grade of C- (minus) at KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma of at least Credit pass in the relevant field of study from a recognized institution/KNEC.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

Mean grade of C+ at KCSE or equivalent. In addition, the student must have a minimum grade of C (plain) in English/Kiswahili, and C+ (plus) in Physics and Mathematics. Or Minimum grade of C+ (plus) in Mathematics and B- in Physical Sciences OR Mean grade of C- (minus) at KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma of at least Credit pass in Computer Science from a recognized institution/KNEC.

Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication and Information Technology

Mean grade of C+ at KCSE or equivalent, with a minimum grade of (plain) in Mathematics and C+ in Physics or B- (minus) in Physical Sciences OR Mean grade of C- (minus) at KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma of at least Credit pass in Computer Science from a recognized institution/KNEC.

Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry

Mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or Equivalent, with at least C+ (plus) in Biology, and C (plain) in Chemistry and Mathematics OR Mean grade of C- (minus) at KCSE or its equivalent, and a Diploma with credit pass in a relevant field of study from a recognized institution/KNEC.

Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology

Mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or Equivalent, with at least C+ (plus) in Biology, and C (plain) in Chemistry and Mathematics OR Mean grade of C- (minus) at KCSE or its equivalent, and a Diploma with credit pass in a relevant field of study from a recognized institution/KNEC.

Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

Mean grade of C+ at KCSE or equivalent. With a minimum grade of C+ Chemistry and C (plain) in Mathematics OR grade of C (plain) at KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma of at least Credit pass in the relevant field of study from a recognized institution/KNEC.

Bachelor of Science in Industrial Chemistry

Mean Grade of C+ (Plus) KCSE or equivalent, with a minimum grade of C+ (Plus) in Chemistry and C (plain) in Mathematics and Physics.

OR Mean grade of C- (minus) at KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma of at least Credit pass in the relevant field of study from a recognised institution/KNEC.

Bachelor of science in Botany

Bachelor of Science in Zoology

Mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or Equivalent, with at least C+ (plus) in Biology, and C (plain) in Chemistry and Mathematics OR Mean grade of C- (minus) at KCSE or its equivalent, and a Diploma with credit pass in a relevant field of study from a recognised institution/KNEC.

Bachelor of science in Microbiology

Mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or Equivalent, with at least C+ (plus) in Biology, and C (plain) in Chemistry and Mathematics OR Mean grade of C- (minus) at KCSE or its equivalent, and a Diploma with credit pass in a relevant field of study from a recognised institution/KNEC.

Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and Fisheries

Mean grade of C+ (plus) or equivalent, with at least C (plain) in Biology and Chemistry, and C-(minus) in Mathematics; OR Mean grade of C- (minus) at KCSE or equivalent and a Diploma with credit in Applied Biology or any related field from a recognised institution/KNEC.

Diploma in Applied Biology

Mean grade of C- (minus) at KCSE or its equivalent, with at least C (plain) in Biology

OR A mean grade of D+ (plus) in KCSE and Certificate in Applied Biology or related field from a recognised institution/KNEC.

Diploma in Computer Science

Be a holder of K.C.S.E certificate with a minimum Mean Grade of C (Plain) or its equivalent qualification, with at least C plain in Mathematics, Physics and English/Kiswahili

Diploma in Information Technology

Be a holder of K.C.S.E certificate with a minimum Mean Grade of C (Plain) or its equivalent qualification, with at least C plain in Mathematics, Physics/ Chemistry and English/Kiswahili
